Peter Jensen - Member - Team Wisconsin - 2010
Tom Mangelsdorf - Member - Team Wisconsin - 2010
Peter Jensen, 79, was born in Hinsdale, Illinois, graduated from Lyons Township High School(IL) in 1948, and earned a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Illinois in 1953. Jensen met his wife, Norma, while going to college, they have been married for 56 years, and they have 3 children, and 5 grandchildren. They moved to Sheboygan, Wisconsin, in 1958. Ironicly, for most of his life, Peter didn’t have much of an involvement in playing sports. He told Wisconsin Powerlifting News, “ I was not in sports in school. After being cut twice, I said to heck with it. My buddies, who all were on the teams, couldn't understand why I got cut, since they knew how good I was from playing with me in our sandlot games. I figured coaches must be dumb. No one at that time could have predicted I would become a champion Powerlifter at age 70.” In the last 10 years, however, Jensen has had a fairly illustrious lifting career. He has finished 1 st in 37 different competitions, holds dozens of Wisconsin Records, as well as many American Records, and a few World Records as well. Peter was NASA’s National Runner-up for Master’s 4(70+) Powerlifter of the Year in both 2007 and 2009, and was named NASA’s 2009 Master’s 4 Power Sports Lifter of the Year at this year’s NASA Banquet, back in January. He is a member of “Toastmasters,” and was Wisconsin’s 2008 Announcer of the Year. His best Gym Lifts are 235(SQ), 235(BP), and 390(DL). Jensen’s best Meet Lifts are 104(Curl), 250(SQ), 230(BP), and 370(DL). Peter has a personal goal of Totaling 1,000 Lbs in Powerlifting, and Curling 125 Lbs. He joined the U.S. Army during the Korean War and his Bench Photo, above, was taken at the 2006 Veteran’s Memorial Meet, on November 11 th , 2006. Tom Mangelsdorf, 50, resides in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin. In his first 3 years of competing in Powerlifting, Tom has had 4 First Place finishes, and 2 Second Place finishes. He joined NASA in 2009, and in less than a year, he has already lifted in NASA Meets in 3 different States. The World Cup Meet, in Colorado, will be his 4th NASA State.
Mangelsdorf and his wife Doreen have 2 daughters, Amie, 27, and Katie, 25. Tom will be lifting for Team Wisconsin in the 275 Lbs. Weight Class. When interviewed, after his selection to be a Member of Team Wisconsin, Tom commented, "I'm loving the experiences I've had with NASA and all the great people I've met. I'm very excited and look forward to many more years of NASA lifting."
